Retro LEDs and vintage bulbs

The world of LED is changing rapidly. Customer requests must be met. However, a specific trend has been going on for a few years now. These are retro LEDs and vintage. What are their characteristics? Their differences? Retro products are inspired by the old to make something new. In terms of retro LEDs, the products are manufactured in such a way that they recall traditional lighting technologies while sporting LED technology.

"You can say that all products are retro, but not the other way around."

LED Retro: what is it?

Retro LED bulbs are modern LED bulbs designed after traditional incandescent bulbs. In recent years, LEDs have appeared fairly standardized. This was mainly due to the use of flat LED chips that left little flexibility in terms of design. Manufacturers such as Osram, Crest, Philips, and Sylvania have developed a unique technology (LED Filament) in order to have LED chips vertically inside the bulb to mimic a pattern of traditional light from a light bulb. Incandescence.

LED Retro: are they dimmable?

The terms retrofit or retro, unfortunately, do not give any indication on the gradation of the LED bulb, although the bulbs "retro" of the past are always dimmable without any problem. Nowadays, many LED models prefer to use specific LED dimmers. They do not work properly with economical or conventional dimmers outside the manufacturer's compatibility lists.

Nevertheless, you should always pay attention to labeling the package with the dimmer. If printed on the packaging, you can be sure you can adjust the light intensity of the bulb. If it is crossed out, your bulb is not controllable by dimmer.
